same rain

"I have learned that community reaches far beyond what eyes can see and though miles divide us, at some point we're all washed by the same rain." ~Pat Humphries

There's a frightened little girl inside this woman's body.
Jamie won't you go to bed early.
For this child didn't get to be a child for long.
Tomorrow's going to be a brighter day.

Well the day was hard and a drink would ease the burden.
Jamie won't you go to bed early.
Your daddy's coming home and he's going to be tired.
Tomorrow's going to be a better day.

After two more drinks the silence spells a warning.
Better leave while you can 'cause there's going to be a fight.

Well I heard his threats to my mother in the kitchen.
You wouldn't get hit if you kept your mouth shut.

I learned if I'm not perfect then I shouldn't be loved.
I tried my best but it was never enough.

It's best to stay together, children need a home.
And I can't bear the thought of growing old alone.

Well I walked in fear through hallways of the old house
The house is long gone but I'm walking there still.
